About
Michelle Higa Fox is an artist, filmmaker, and creative director of Slanted Studios. She divides her time between directing commercial projects, creating public art installations, and curating motion graphics.
As a founding member of the animation trio Mixtape Club, Michelle co-directed music videos for Yeasayer, My Morning Jacket, and TV On The Radio, and produced commercials for clients including Google and Showtime. This work won the team an ADC Young Guns award, a Best Music Video award at SXSW, and appearances on “Best of the Year” lists for MTV2, Spin Magazine, and Pitchfork Media.
Since leaving Mixtape Club in 2011, Michelle has been a frequent collaborator of MacArthur Fellow Camille Utterback. With Utterback, she has created permanent interactive public art installations for the Sacramento International Airport and Mercedes House in New York.
In 2012, Michelle founded Slanted Studios to develop commercial projects as a director and artist. As the principal creative of Slanted Studios, Michelle has directed commercials for Coach, Adult Swim, and Nike and worked on music videos for Sharon Jones. This work has appeared in numerous international film festivals and STASH.
Outside of work, Michelle curates films as an editor for the industry blog Motionographer and as the director of Slanted Gallery. Michelle has spoken at the Apple Store, Collider Conference, SVA, and Brown University. She has served on the jury for ADC Young Guns and Adobe Max Awards and taught at FXPHD.
Michelle lives and works in Brooklyn.
